La Chambre Rose
The pink room was one dream subject that had never gotten any artistic attention from me, but was so beloved that I finally decided to make a miniature rendition of it.
Below is a small gallery of a roombox I had been working on, made inside of a reclaimed drawer. The wallpaper was made from both fabric and decorative paper, the moulding made from scraps of wood, also painted. The furniture within was constructed of cardstock, cardboard, wood scraps, scraps of ribbon and trim, beads, metal findings, small plastic toys, and molds made from hot glue. The miniature drawers were able to open and even some of the game boxes had tiny boards and working spinners.
I wanted it to have a very Victorian/antique feel, as the dream itself seemed to bend in a more timeless manner.
Making Games
Ever since I was taught to play slapjack at a very young age, I always harbored a near obsession with cards and board games. I had a fairly constant habit of making my own, whether for school projects or just my own fun.
My personal favorites, in no particular order, have been Clue, Senet, Monopoly...(There a long a sordid history behind it, but that's another story), Spite and Malice, Egyptian Rat Screw, Uno, Checkers, Parcheesi, Life, Bananagrams, Story Dice....and honestly there are more but I'm not here to simply make lists. I want to make more games.
Below are some custom handmade games that I had brought to and sold at fairs. I wanted to make visually striking games, even if they were old standards, because the imagery, I think, is key to the enjoyment and engagement.
While my days of handmade games are behind me, the urge to create playful, interactive objects has not. If you'd like to see what I'm up to nowadays, please visit my game page, or my gamecrafter page.
